Oktagon promoter Ondřej Novotný confirmed that Aleksandar Ilič lied about his weight at the post-fight press conference after losing the title fight at Prague’s Štvanice.

After the fight Ilic indirectly made excuses for the difference in weight between the two fighters

Serbian fighter Aleksandar Ilic didn’t deliver what he promised to the fans and got beaten up. The next gala of the leading domestic MMA organization Oktagon, number 34, belonged to Karlos Vemola. He won the welterweight championship belt in the main event of the evening.

His defeated rival acknowledged the qualities of the Czech “Terminator” after the fight, but indirectly made excuses for the weight difference between the two fighters. “Karlos is a very strong fighter, but there was a difference in strength and weight,” Ilic prevaricated at the post-fight press conference.

“I was 94 kg before the fight, my weight class is more like middleweight,” complained the Serbian fighter. So the fight turned out exactly as the critics of this fight predicted. Vémola threw Joker to the ground and tortured him there until his opponent gave up on the submission.

But promoter Novotny questioned the Joker’s side of the story, did he lie about his weight?

But the Serb’s version of the story was disputed by Octagon promoter Ondrej Novotny himself, who accused Ilic of lying in a live YouTube broadcast. At the public weigh-in on the eve of the tournament, he was supposedly much bigger than he claimed after the loss.

I look very carefully, especially for those special fights where I’m very interested, at the public weigh-ins in the evening, how much the fighters can come back,” Novotny said on his MMA podcast Flight Through the World.

“Joker was 100% over 100 kg, if I’m not mistaken 101 and something,” the charismatic promoter surprised. “I don’t have any reason to make it up, I don’t know why I would do that, I don’t want to believe he would lose,” he stood his ground.

“He often said things that are not true,” he added about the Serbian fighter, explaining that he simply wanted to promote his fight. He certainly did that, but he never lived up to his words, making him easy fodder for the hot-tempered Vemola.
