On Friday in the multifunctional hall Gong in Ostrava was held a press conference of the largest domestic MMA organization Oktagon, where many new projects were presented. One of the most impressive news was the organization’s intervention in the problem of education and social groups, which is bullying and violence.
Oktagon unveiled a project unprecedented in the martial arts
As we informed you less than a week ago, another mixed martial arts gala, Oktagon 32, will take place in Ostrava this Saturday with a title fight for the welterweight championship belt. The rematch will be between the king of Oktagon David “Pink Panther” Kozma and the veteran of Czech MMA Petr “Monster” Kníže.
The day before the tournament, however, a press conference was held, where the organization announced the introduction of a lot of new features that should amaze the audience. But few expected that Oktagon would go towards addressing the issues that are the right step to separate this top sport from the general public’s label associated with violence and aggression.
Since the representatives of Oktagon have been thinking for a long time about how to counteract this labeling of martial arts, they have presented a project that is unprecedented in the domestic combat sports scene. The idea comes from the goal of helping people who experience bullying and hatred in any form firsthand and are afraid to speak up about it.
After all, probably everyone has encountered bullying, hateful comments, or verbal or physical violence. That is why Oktagon has decided to fight against this scourge in the society, especially among children, in its new project.
David Kozma, the king of Oktagon, is the face of the project Sport against bullying
The face of the project, which bears the subtitle “The fight belongs in the cage, not in school”, is the welter champion, the darling of Ostrava David Kozma. He was a victim of bullying in his childhood and the unpleasant feelings motivated him to become a combat sports athlete.
Now he is a sports icon on the domestic scene and can be an inspiration for many children who suffer as a result of similar experiences.
“I’ll never get my hardest fight out of my mind, my opponent was pounding me,” Kozma shares in the Oktagon Medallion his hardest fight of his career, in which he experienced bullying firsthand at school. “I’ll never forget that KO, it was the bell that saved me,” the Oktagon champion said in a chilling statement.
The project will help young people in trouble seek professional help
In conjunction with the project, a website will be launched where those going through such experiences will be able to seek professional help. The project is working with psychologist Martin Benkovič, and the website will also contain a lot of information about contact details for various helplines.
The project will also publish a form for Czechoslovak schools to sign up, which will then host tours with Oktagon wrestlers.
Thus, in cooperation with Rexona, Oktagon is opening new doors to enter topics in society that can help young people with their life’s struggles. For this, the representatives of Oktagon deserve respect and gratitude, thank you!
