It’s unprofessional, says Pest about the announcement of a match that was not arranged. Why did he object publicly?
Octagon announced earlier in the week that we can look forward to the organization’s first-ever two title match gala in February. One of them was to be handled by Viktor Peshta, who was to be challenged for the second time by Stephan Pütz. But the champion objected to the announcement of the fight on social media. During a stream on Monday, he announced why.
According to last week’s official announcements, February was supposed to be a literal gift to MMA fans. The OKTAGON 31 gala was supposed to be graced by two title fights, namely between Pirate and Patrik Kinzel and between Viktor Peseta and Stephan Pütz.
However, Pešta objected to the announcement on social media, saying he was unaware of the fight. At the press conference, promoter Ondřej Novotný expressed his regret and announced that it was a misunderstanding, which was perhaps the first time it had happened to him.
The only thing left to do was for the Octagon welterweight champion to comment on the whole situation. He did that on Monday in a live Instagram broadcast.
“It’s simple. Ondra and I talked about the fight the whole time. It’s not like I didn’t know anything. We talked about the O2 arena, the date, but nothing was arranged and agreed and suddenly I see the poster,” Peshta expressed.
“The second thing is that we mainly dealt with the contract, which we didn’t finish. There are a few things that are not finalized. Now, I’m not even signed by Octagon, so I find it weird and unprofessional. I’m not gonna take it lying down. Unfortunately, it’s not something that’s happened for the first time,” he added.
Peshta has reportedly asked Octagon in the past not to announce fights until the contract is resolved. That’s also why he decided to respond publicly. He doesn’t think it’s fair to the fans or the fighters.
“It’s about if I’m even going to fight in the Octagon anymore. I want to wrestle there, we’re working on a contract, but it hasn’t been finalized. Of course Ondra said at the press conference that it was a misunderstanding. Let’s put it this way. But the facts are that there is no contract and in the past I wanted it not to happen,” continued the champion.
Among other things, Peshta didn’t rule out the fight taking place, he just doesn’t like the way it was announced. Despite the issue, he doesn’t want to go to another organization now, but he wouldn’t be opposed to returning to the UFC.
