Two league losses in a row, a tough schedule, bad form, too much for Tomáš Souček in November. How did he assess the 1:2 loss to Manchester City for the club’s website?

West Ham didn’t even score at the Etihad Stadium with Tomáš Souček in the line-up after losing to Wolverhampton. They lost 1:2 to Manchester City.

Coach David Moyes’ bet on a three-goal system didn’t work out, the London team fought through a difficult match and deservedly left without a point.

“It’s frustrating. We are all disappointed with the result. We put in a great effort and fought until the end. I’m happy for that,” Soucek said in an interview with the club’s website.

Despite the heavy snowfall, the home side clearly dominated the ball in Sunday’s game, holding it for sixty-nine percent of the game time. Manchester City was also active in the end, firing nine times at goal, but only two shots were taken.

On the other hand, the West Ham side only came out in the second half, more precisely after they scored a goal at 0:2 from Fernandinho’s kick. However, David Moyes’ charges could not do more than reduce the deficit.

“Teams come here with the idea of playing football without the ball. Even so, we should have created more. Unfortunately, we were not so good in the opponent’s penalty area and in the last thirty meters,” Soucek continued.

West Ham hold on to fourth place in the Premier League despite two straight losses. But they are already five points behind third-placed Liverpool, so they have to look below them in the table. Tenth-placed Leicester are only five points behind.

In the inserted round, the three Czech representatives will play Brighton. The south coast side has been struggling since October, but they are a good ninth in the table. The Hammers have a clear goal, to win and to leapfrog the competition.

“We have played three competitive games in a row away, now it will turn around. I believe that the fans will push us to the limit and we will repay them with a result,” Souček concluded.
