Buchinger: I won’t bet against Kozma, but I’ll beat him on a choke. Will he challenge Vemola after he wins?
In less than a month we can look forward to a historic event. Ivan Buchinger can become the champion of three weight classes. The favorite, however, will be his opponent David Kozma. What did the Slovak legend reveal to the media?
In less than a month we can look forward to a historic event. Ivan Buchinger can become the champion of three weight classes. The favorite, however, will be his opponent David Kozma. What did the Slovak legend reveal to the media?
The legendary Ivan Buchinger has been interested in a fight with David Kozma for some time. However, he didn’t expect it to happen this soon. Fans will see the welterweight title fight on December 4 in Ostrava.
As soon as the Slovak fighter received the offer for the fight, he didn’t hesitate for a moment. But it won’t be easy. Since the fight is baked in pretty quickly, Buchinger won’t have enough time to gain muscle mass. He expects to come into the fight at around 78 kilograms, while Kozma could be 9 kilograms heavier.
Learning to work with the higher weight won’t be easy either. “I will be slower, but at the same time I will have more strength and energy. I won’t have to lose weight, I will do my last workouts to the fullest, I won’t restrict carbohydrates. The body works differently then. David may be affected by the crashing,” Buchinger let himself be heard in an interview with Sport.sk.
The former champion of the Cage Warriors or M-1 organizations is preparing for the fight with Attila Vegh or Samuel Kristofich, who fight at heavier weights. Kozma’s weight advantage could play a big role. Buchinger, however, believes he can work something out.
Buchinger has bet on himself twice in the past, once was in a fight with Conor McGregor. He lost both fights. He’s not going to make the same mistake against Kozma.
Still, he thinks the odds are even. He has mostly positive words for the welterweight champion, he sees him as a friend. His prediction is quite clear: “I am more technical. I’ll catch him on some chokes. The truth is, I probably won’t knock him out. Plus, I have to make sure he doesn’t get hit.”
A lot of people don’t trust Buchinger. But that gives him motivation. And if he wins a third title he would try to win a fourth under obvious circumstances: ” I would like to fight for a fourth belt, but only against Vemola, against nobody else. If he doesn’t wrestle, I won’t go to middleweight.”
Will the Slovakian sympathizer’s ambitions end in a fight with Kozma?
