PSG won their third Champions League group stage match, beating Leipzig 3-2 at home. The game was played at a high tempo, with Leipzig leading at one point, but Lionel Messi scored two crucial goals and the German vice-champion was unable to react.
Konrad Laimer had the first chance of the game in the third minute, but Keylor Navas made a good save with the help of the defenders. On the other side, Julian Draxler found a nice centre and just missed.
The start of the match full of chances culminated in a header from André Silva in the seventh minute, Navas was successful again.
In the tenth minute the score changed. Lionel Messi won the ball, Paris quickly broke and Kylian Mbappé cleared the ball to the near post. The equaliser could have come in the 25th minute, but Marquinhos kicked the ball into the box.
A minute later, Silva hit the bar with a shot from the penalty spot. In the 28th minute, the Portuguese sniper celebrated as he cleared Angeliño’s pass into an empty net. The second half was not nearly as interesting, with Christopher Nkunku narrowly missing the target in the 42nd minute.
Leipzig turned the tide in the 58th minute. Nordi Mukiele found the centre of Angelien’s cross and finished uncompromisingly from a volley. However, PSG managed to recover and in the 66th minute Lionel Messi equalised after good work by Mbappé.
And eight minutes later, the Argentine winger added his second goal, lobbing Peter Gulacsi from the penalty spot. After that, the visitors worked out some promising actions, but were not successful at all in the end.
Mbappé could have added an insurance goal in stoppage time, but he sent his penalty kick over the bar. He didn’t have to be sorry, his team still won 3: 2.
