Leo Brichta still has a valid contract in the Octagon, yet he decided to switch to the newly formed competition in the form of RFA. Promoter Ondřej Novotný commented on the whole situation. What did he say?
Oktagon is by far the biggest organization in the Czech Republic, it has already built its name abroad. Now, however, it will have more competition on the local market. A new organization has been created.
Under the wings of the newly formed RFA will fight Leo Brichta, one of the biggest stars of Oktagon so far, where the talented fighter has a contract until 2023.
“ It’s a pity that we are not on the same level as football. There are now fines for someone dragging a signed player elsewhere. We’re going back to the old ways, ethics were there for a few years and they’re not again.”
In an interview with Kaocko.cz, Novotný revealed that he had spoken to Brichta. According to him, RFA representatives went around Brichta’s manager and promised him a number of things.
Meanwhile, Oktagon had already offered Brichta a new contract proposal, and he was even offered a title fight with Ivan Buchinger. “I think we have built something together. He wants a change. Nobody can ask us to be any more accommodating when this has gone on behind our backs,” the Oktagon promoter let slip.
Then, in a recent interview with iSport, Novotny admitted that a lawyer is handling the situation. Bricht could reportedly face a fine of tens of thousands of euros.
