A Buchinger-Kozma fight? First he has to defend his lightweight title
Ivan Buchinger won on Saturday the second belt of Oktagon! And he did it all in just two fights in this prestigious Czech-Slovak organization. Are the defenses next? No way! Buchinger would like a third belt, this time he wants to challenge welterweight king David Kozma.
Ivan Buchinger won on Saturday the second belt of Oktagon! And he did it all in just two fights in this prestigious Czech-Slovak organization. Are the defenses next? No way! Buchinger would like a third belt, this time he wants to challenge welterweight king David Kozma.
Ivan Buchinger is definitely one of the best Czech-Slovak fighters. In his first fight under the Oktagon banner, he fought for the lightweight title against Ronald Paradeiser, whom he defeated in the first round.
He fought his second bout on Saturday in the featherweight title fight against Vojt Barborik. In quite possibly the best fight in Octagon history, he won on points and could have had two belts on his shoulders.
What now? Buchinger said immediately after the fight that he’d like a third title shot, at welterweight. That, of course, has been dominated for years by David Kozma.
“I’m ready for the fight now. I don’t have to lose any weight. It doesn’t matter that I’ll be smaller at that weight. I’m technical and strong. Just because I’m smaller doesn’t mean anything. I read that he talked about having a green box next to Ivan Buchinger’s name on Sherdog. I’m going to show him that I’m going to look very good with three belts,” Buchinger told MMA Shorties.
But don’t count on the fight happening anytime soon. That’s because Kaik Brito and Peter Knight are scheduled to face off for a title fight with Kozma, so Buchinger will have to wait.
In the meantime, however, he will most certainly have to fight one fight. After all, the champion has to defend once a year and the win over Paradeiser came at the end of January.
So now the question is who he will face. However, a fight with Kozma is certainly not out of the question and such a fight would appeal to the vast majority of MMA fans.
