Preparation for the fight with Karlos Vémolá. That’s exactly how Attila Végh perceived his Saturday boxing match with UFC veteran Eric Spicely at Fight Night Challenge 4. How did the Slovak legend fare?
The rematch of the Fight of the Century has already been announced, and although we don’t know when it will take place, we already have something to look forward to. Many may question the motivation and form of the Slovakian legend, but Attila Végh has made it clear that he will give his all in preparation.
It was in preparation for his fight with Karlos Vemola that he took on UFC veteran Eric Spicely at Fight Night Challenge 4.
The American fighter has also appeared in the Octagon in the past when he took on Marcin Naruszczka in a fight for Vemola, but lost by TKO in the second round. Six months later, he was defeated by Zdenek Polívka by TKO in the first round.
Spicely then retired, but in February, he decided to make a comeback, appearing at the Fabriq tournament and defeating Nikolata Zlatev by MMA submission in less than a minute. Now he was going to fight Vegh.
They fought at the agreed weight of 98 kilograms. Végh proved once again that he may not have too much trouble dropping down to welterweight. And as for his qualities, they were already tested a year ago by Patrik Kincl under the same organization.
Now it was Spicely who could experience Végh’s qualities for himself, pulling the short end of the rope in all rounds of the three-round boxing duel. Attila was patient, scoring the fight nicely, showing that he is still fast and that he is definitely not completely out of shape.
So Attila scored a well deserved points win and had a lot to say after the fight. “Eric is an experienced wrestler. Everyone told me to finish him and kill him, but I can’t do it like that. It only takes a small mistake and you can pay for it.”
Vegh knew he was in control of the fight and he wasn’t about to make any mistakes. Moreover, he wasn’t going to underestimate his opponent.
He also had a message for Vemola. “I hope he was watching. I love him the most in the world. Now he has an important match ahead of him. I’m his biggest fan, but when we’re in the cage, he’ll be my biggest enemy. He’ll want to take everything away from me, that’s where our relationship will go sideways. I’m going to destroy him,” Végh concluded.
