You have two fights in the Octagon, but you have previously competed in the Russian ACA. How do you rate both organizations, can you offer any comparisons?
Both organizations are big and very professional. I’m not afraid of any challenges, so I’m happy to compete around Europe and with whoever is ahead of me in the rankings. I’m in the Octagon to get the heavyweight championship belt. That’s my goal.
Your next fight will be at Octagon 41 against Bulgarian Todev, who is riding a streak of five wins in a row. In your professional career, you’ve never left your fights to the judges on points. Can we expect another ending in Liberec as well?
My opponents are studied by my coaches, I just do what they want. I like Todev’s style, and I think the clash of our styles guarantees an ending within the first or second round.
Especially in the first fight with Croatian Cosic, you had some really tough moments, especially on the ground, but you showed agility in a difficult moment. How difficult was it to deal with Cosic’s weight advantage?
My favorite thing to do is punch, but I’m working on every aspect of the fight to keep improving. Cosic had his moments in our fight, but I didn’t panic and just did my job. But my hand was raised at the end of the fight, so I’m happy with the result. It was a valuable experience.
How would you even introduce yourself as a fighter to fans who don’t know you very well. How would you describe your fighting style?
I’m a stand-up guy who loves to trade punches and kicks. But I can also wrestle and fight on the ground when I need to. But if I’m honest, I enjoy stand-up the most.
What do you think of Hatef Moeil’s sharp message? Do you see it as an insult to your character? And do you still stand by your challenge?
Hatef didn’t want to fight me in front of his own fans. No need to add more to that. I would fight him today. I like fighters who don’t run away from challenges. I always have. I hope one day we meet in the cage. But I have a feeling he’ll still run from me.
How do you feel about his last performance in Munich against Carvalho, in which he surprisingly had problems, even though he won.
We’re talking heavyweight, so any scenario is possible. The fight just turned out like that..
A new acquisition to the Octagon is Stuart Austin from the UK, who has fought in the PFL overseas and in the past was able to defeat Tom Aspinall, who is a top five contender in the UFC’s heavyweight division. Do you know him and possibly see him as a bigger threat than Moeil?
I’m really excited that Octagon is signing quality heavyweights and I’m looking forward to challenging them all! Yes, I think Stuart is a bigger challenge than Hatef.
Mateusz Legierski has made the biggest Polish mark in the Octagon and remains undefeated. Have you followed his journey in the organization? Will you be looking to emulate him?
Of course, I’m happy when Polish guys put on good fights and build their name abroad. But I want to tread my own path, build my own name, my own reputation.
In Poland, Jan Blachowicz, who challenged our Jiri Prochazka, is probably the most famous fighter for the Czech audience. How do you perceive both fighters?
I have trained with Jan a couple of times, so I know he is a very strong fighter. Jiri is also a big name and a quality fighter. His advantage is that he is in his prime. I think their fight would be 50:50.
What is your sporting goal, what would you like to achieve in your career? Do you see yourself as an Octagon champion at the end of 2023?
My current goal is to become the heavyweight champion of the Octagon. I am confident that nothing can stop me and I also believe that the organization will live up to its words. I have a big promise from the matchmakers of the Octagon.
Would you like to say something to the Czechoslovak fans?
Guys, I like being a part of Oktagon and I’m glad I can fight in a neighboring country. I’m here to become a real heavyweight champion. Mark my words.
