Brazilian striker Endrick is not having a great start to the new year for Palmeiras. Will the frustrated youngster find his lost form again?
One of Brazil’s best hopes for the future, Endrick may only be 16 years old, but there is already a lot of pressure on him. As it is the case with such young players, they go through frequent form fluctuations at the start of their adult careers.
The young striker has already got used to playing regularly in the starting line-up for Brazilian team Palmeiras. He is thus already one of the club’s biggest stars at a young age.
After all, Real Madrid won a tug-of-war with the world’s leading clubs and paid €60 million for him into the Brazilian club’s coffers. But he is not moving to the Spanish capital until the summer of 2024, giving him the chance to hone his skills before the biggest step of his football career in Brazil.
However, the promising forward is experiencing a very poor start to the new year and has not scored in ten consecutive games. Then this week, he experienced a crisis in the winning game against RB Bragantino, which culminated in the 60th minute when coach Abel Ferreira substituted him.
The frustrated youngster covered his face on the bench and his coach confirmed that there were tears. “Yes, it’s true, he covered his face because he was crying,” Ferreira told Goal.com. “I’m not his father, but maybe I should have hugged him.”
“You have to be calm. Nobody likes criticism. There is a lot of pressure on him to score five or six goals and he is trying to deal with it himself,” he tried to ease the pressure on his charge. “A goal will come at the right time.”
Even future teammate and compatriot Vinícius Jr. came under fire for criticism and ridicule after his move to Real Madrid. But today he is one of the best that world football has to offer. Will Endrick fulfil his star potential?
