Matavao is a piece of nasty dude, defends promoter Novotný for next opponent of Vemola

The revelation of Karlos Vemola’s opponent caused a stir among the fans. Promoter Ondřej Novotný respects the criticism, but doesn’t understand it.

Criticism of Vemola’s opponent in Liberec

Just more fodder for the Terminator! The management of Oktagon and their biggest star Karlos Vémola have been receiving a huge wave of criticism from fans in the last hours. It was triggered by the revelation of Vemola’s next opponent.

The organization revealed at yesterday’s gala in Munich that Vémola will face Al Mataav at Oktagon 41 in Liberec.

Fans of the Samoan fighter on the domestic scene know him from his three fights in the Oktagon, in which he showed some decent grenades.

However, fans blame the organization that Matavao, as an orthodox stand-up fighter, will be just another fodder for Vemola, and the outcome of the fight is thus a foregone conclusion.

The organization’s promoter Ondrej Novotny attempted to answer the criticism via a live broadcast after the tournament ended directly from the Audi Dome.

Promoter Novotný had to respond to the criticism

“The dude knocked down Salinas (Pavel Salcak), then he knocked down Mazuch with one punch and he put a lot of heat on Pirate, who he went after after a week’s short notice when he flew from Alaska,” Novotny summed up Matavao’s past in the Octagon.

“I’m not going to defend myself at all, neither Karlos nor Matavao. I just don’t care if somebody doesn’t like it. Matavao is a nasty dude, and I think he’s a perfectly adequate opponent for the opening fight,” he said of Samoan.

“And again, that’s exactly the underestimation of these guys and how everyone thinks they know everything. Look at how Pavol Langer was written off, that we gave him to Xavier, how he’s food and boring. And look at Xavier, how he looked after eleven months, how insecure he was, how he didn’t know what to do with himself,” he likened the situation to yesterday’s biggest surprise of the card.

“Stylistically, MMA is simply dangerous. And Matavao is just a short, stocky dude who may not be as tall as Ilitch and may not be as easy to throw. The dude was in the Contender Series, if anyone thinks there’s nothing in it,” he shook his head at the critics.

But Novotny also reminded that Matavao unsuccessfully tried to enter the top league in the world in 2020.
