The rematch of the Match of the Century, pitting the winner Attila Végh against the loser Karlos Vémola, is reportedly ninety percent complete. Will we see the biggest fight of the domestic scene?
Attila Végh is retired after winning the Fight of the Century
Attila Végh, who garnered success in the world-famous MMA organization Bellator, where he won the championship belt, is currently in combat retirement. He is training young MMA fighters at the Spartakus Gym in Trnava.
Occasionally, he will put on a boxing exhibition, as he did on Friday at the Fight Night Challenge gala, where he defeated Brazilian Newton. But we haven’t seen him in the cage since the memorable Fight of the Century with Karlos Vemola.
Karlos Vémola, meanwhile, remains undefeated since that memorable fight with Vegh
It is Terminator, as promised, who is doing everything he can to force the coveted rematch with his results. Since 2019, he has managed 5 MMA fights and one boxing match under the auspices of the leading domestic organization Oktagon despite various health complications.
He has won all of them in unequivocal fashion and still hasn’t given up on his dream. Most recently, he tightened the arm triangle on Polish Michal Pasternak at the just held Oktagon 33 tournament, which was held for the first time ever in Frankfurt, Germany.
Attila is thinking about the only possible fight in MMA
His dream opponent Attila Végh admitted in a recent interview that he is only interested in one fight in MMA. That is his rematch with Karlos Vemola. And according to him, it’s closer than anyone thought given his inactivity.
“I would like to have one more MMA fight, and that would be with Karlos,” said Attila in an interview with iSport. “The only reason I would do it is business, we all live on money, ” he made no secret of his motivation for the rematch.
“And whoever says he wouldn’t go for it or that it’s not interesting is lying,” the Slovak fighter is aware. “Everyone would watch it,” he knows about the attractiveness of a possible rematch.
The rematch of the Match of the Century is ninety percent
“I think we are at ninety percent,” he surprised with his answer when asked how close the possible rematch is at the moment. “It looks realistic, but it’s not up to me from the start, I said what I want in return and I’m waiting,” he added, alluding to the clear financial valuation he told the promoters of the Octagon organization.
“Yes, I can say it’s definitely double,” he said when asked if it was double what he got in his first fight with Vemola. “And I just want to say that when I won the first fight, there were articles that Attila got 100,000 euros for the fight (more than CZK 2.5 million), but I don’t know where people got those amounts,” he added.
The rematch of the biggest fight on the domestic scene is probably the closest it has ever been. The question remains how the owners of the Oktagon organization will approach the situation and how Karlos will be in good health. After the fight with Pasternak, he stated again that he is going to have surgery on his shoulder.
