Will Konrad Laimer transfer to Bayern? What’s the tie-up?
Bayern Munich has strengthened considerably this summer. However, the arrivals of Mané, De Ligt, Mazraoui and Gravenberch will most likely not be the end of it. RB Leipzig midfielder Kondrad Laimer has been on the Munich side’s radar for some time now. So where does it stand?
Bayern Munich has strengthened a lot this summer. However, the arrivals of Mané, De Ligt, Mazraoui and Gravenberch will most likely not be the end of it. RB Leipzig midfielder Kondrad Laimer has been on the Munich side’s radar for some time now. So where does it stand?
The 25-year-old Austrian international has only one year left on his contract with Bayern Leipzig’s challengers. This complicates the situation considerably for the Red Bull club. If they want to monetise Laimer in any meaningful way, they may well have one last chance.
The suitors, led by the Bavarian giant, are well aware of this and are unwilling to pay Leipzig their demanded €30 million.
Bayern’s original offer was to be exactly €20 million and, as expected, was rejected by Leipzig. Bayern’s sporting director, Hasan Salihamidzic, didn’t fare much better with an improved offer of €23 million including bonuses.
At the moment, it seems that Bayern are not willing to increase their offer for a player with one year on his contract.
The deal is therefore uncertain, especially after a recent comment offered by Oliver Mintzlaff, a Red Bull Group official: “I hope Bayern will also come up with something other than just signing our players. Konny [Kondrad Laimer] is an extremely important figure for us, so we don’t want to lose him. We are holding all the cards. If we have to negotiate, it has to be on our terms.”
Leipzig would much rather sell players abroad than to their direct rivals. They would probably be willing to accept a lower transfer fee. In fact, the player prefers a transfer to Munich and that could come in the form of a free transfer in a year’s time after the end of his contract.
Bayern Munich, who have stopped negotiations with LAFC to sell Adrian Fein, are apparently preparing for this alternative. nagelsmann has taken the 23-year-old defensive midfielder on a tour of the United States with him, with the aim of checking if the Bayern academy graduate is talented enough to fill the role of midfield understudy to Kimmich and co. in the final year of his Munich contract.
Tedesco may be able to lean on the Schlager-Laimer midfield pairing after all and challenge Bayern Munich for the Bundesliga title with it.
