Will Chelsea London get another great signing? The Stamford Bridge club is currently looking for a central defender and Kalidou Koulibaly from Naples seems to be a great alternative. But how much would this transfer cost Chelsea?

Senegalese stopper Koulibaly is reportedly close to a move to the English Premier League, specifically to a club whose home is Stamford Bridge.

According to Sky Sports, the deal should be officially confirmed today, Wednesday 13 July. Based on the latest information, Chelsea are expected to send between €38 million and €40 million to Naples.

Chelsea are expected to offer the central defender, who has already made sixty-two national team starts for Senegal, a five-year contract that should see the thirty-one-year-old stopper earn £160,000 a week, or £8.2 million a year.

A logical move by Chelsea, with Juventus also interested in Koulibaly

This transfer would thus be more than a logical move by the London outfit, especially after Antonio Rüdiger (Real Madrid) and Andreas Christensen (Barcelona) left the club. Coach Thomas Tuchel currently has only three central defenders in his squad – Thiago Silva, Trevoh Chalobah and Malang Sarr.

This speculation, which is very likely to turn into an official transfer, is also helped by the fact that Napoli held their first summer training session on Tuesday evening, open to the fans. And Koulibaly was absent.

It should be noted, his contract at the Italian club expires next June and if Napoli want to monetise him, they must sell him preferably in this transfer window. However, apart from Chelsea, Juventus were also interested in him.

So if Chelsea completes this transfer, Naples will make a lot of money. And not only in economic terms.

Koulibaly came to Naples in July 2014 for 7.75 million euros from Belgian Genk. In their jersey, he jumped into 317 games across all competitions. In them he scored 14 goals as a stopper and assisted 8 more. The Senegalese international has been an integral part of Napoli’s defence, especially in recent years.
