The Chelsea management will decide in the next few days whether to bring in another signing this summer besides Romelu Lukaku. Jules Koundé, who has been linked with Chelsea for practically the entire summer, and, more recently, Saúl Ñíguez, are expected to be the hottest favourites for a transfer to the blue side of London.

Thus, the trio of Granovskaia, Cech and Tuchel are likely to negotiate in the coming days which post needs primary reinforcement. Ñíguez mostly plays in central midfield at Atlético Madrid, while Koundé is a typical full-back.

Chelsea should look more for an extreme defender after the departure of Emerson (on loan to Lyon). However, Thomas Tuchel has reportedly already spoken to the director about the arrival of Ñíguez.

It still seems more logical to buy Koundé. In fact, Trevoh Chalobah, who has grabbed his opportunity to hold his own in the first team, can play in the centre of midfield.

He managed to score in the opening game of the English top flight against Crystal Palace and was named man of the match.

The Chelsea coach himself commented on his versatility at the press conference, “ He could be the solution (in the Arsenal game) and in an emergency he could step in as a fourth midfielder.”

With the 26-year-old Ñíguez still under contract for five more seasons in the Spanish capital, the talk is mainly about a loan deal with an option.

Koundé, who Sevilla have insured for the next three seasons, would not be cheap again, with his price reportedly spiralling up to €60 million.
