Why didn’t Octagon take the title from Magard? Bantam is not extremely well built, Novotny admitted

The Octagon tournament lost two of its highlights. After Vemola and Kinclo, Magard, who was supposed to have a title match with Mack, had to withdraw. A replacement has come in for the Dane, however the fight will be for the interim title. Why didn’t the Octagon take the belt from the Shark?

When Jonas Magard’s injury was announced, many fans were saddened. It was supposed to be the highlight of the tournament itself, with the Dane properly promoting it thanks to his shake.

But the organization soon found a replacement in Gustavo Lopez. What surprised many, however, was that with Filip Mack it would not be a classic, but only a provisional title.

Also because of the severity of the injury, as the Dane will miss long months. However, Ondrej Novotny tried to clarify this situation in his MMA show Flight Through the World.

“We don’t have an extremely well built bantamweight division, although we are trying to fill it out to have more stable fighters and we will continue to work on it. Also, the situation was that we offered the title to Filip Mack right after the win over Silander because we wanted to make the title fast and Magard was already waiting for the fight as well.

However, Filip Macek turned down the fight because of his injury or because he wasn’t feeling 100%, which is fine, but it’s turning down a title shot that he wanted very badly. However, well, we respect that he wants to go 100%. Then he had to give birth, which is what he wanted to focus on.

We and Magard have been waiting six months for Philip Mack since the Fourth, which is fine because life brings these things. Magard understood, too. We weren’t able to give Magard someone we were happy with.

Now the situation has come up that Magard is injured and we still don’t have a big follower in the division. Now if Filip Macek loses, which could very well happen because Lopez is an extremely tough opponent, we’d have a dude with a title shot who may have dropped out of the UFC, but there’s a first fight.

Yeah, we’ve done it before if anyone wants to take my word for it, but there’s always a genesis to why things are done the way they are and why I usually decide to do it that way,” he said at length.

So it all comes down to the decision of the organization, which makes the decision to the best of its knowledge and conscience. After all, these words are relatively easy to understand.
