What a discovery! Tottenham are at a very low level, Conte realised after another embarrassment
That Tottenham really don’t have the quality of other top clubs in the Premier League is well known. However, even Antonio Conte, who went out with the harsh truth, could no longer breathe the shame Spurs cut in Slovenia.
That Tottenham really don’t have the quality of other top clubs in the Premier League is well known. However, even Antonio Conte, who went out with the harsh truth, could no longer breathe the shame Spurs cut in Slovenia.
The town of Murska Sobota in the east of Slovenia, home to the NŠ Mura team that won the local league last season, has a population of around 12,000, yet this team still managed to put the great Tottenham to shame.
For Conte, this is his first defeat on the bench of a London side, coming after two wins and a draw. After Thursday’s game, however, the Italian coach was very frank.
“I have to be honest and tell you that after three weeks I am beginning to understand our situation, which is not easy. At the moment, Tottenham’s level is very low,” Conte told the post-match press conference.
The fifty-two year old Italian coach has had many great successes and his words must be respected by the football public. For Spurs, however, it is the harsh truth that has brought them back down to earth.
The good news, however, is that they have Conte on the bench, who can definitely build a successful team, provided of course that he has the necessary resources to do so, which is to be expected.
Indeed, the former Juventus, Chelsea and Inter Milan coach has already turned down a number of big clubs who didn’t want to meet his terms. Tottenham, however, are well known for their business model.
“But we must not be afraid of it. I am here to work on it and change it. I know that at the moment we have to be patient and I am here to help solve this problem,” Conte continued.
Of course, it has to be said that Spurs still have everything firmly in their hands and they just need to play a good game against Rennes, when they have a two-goal lead on Vitesse, with whom they have equal points (score TOT:: 11::8, VIT::: 9::8).
“The only magic I can show you is hard work. We have to work hard to get better. I will try to pass on my methods and footballing mindset to the team, but we have to understand the fact that it won’t happen right away, it takes time,” Conte concluded the interview.
Tottenham now have relatively easier opponents as they face Burnley on Sunday, followed by Brentford and Norwich. 9. then, in December, comes the crucial game against Rennes.
