Vladimír Coufal is disappointed with the “improved” contract. Fans are on his side!
Vladimír Coufal shone at Euro 2020. Some prestigious sites even named him the best right-back of the tournament, and he was looking forward to being offered a contract upgrade by his current employer.
Vladimír Coufal shone at Euro 2020. Some prestigious sites even named him the best right-back of the tournament, and he was looking forward to being offered a contract upgrade by his current employer. But the club’s owners presented the Czech international with a very inadequate upgrade, which Coufal’s representatives refused to sign. West Ham fans are outraged by the actions of their owners and are clearly on the side of the Czech defender.
The soon to be 29-year-old defender is under contract at West Ham until the summer of 2023. At West Ham, Vladimir Coufal is currently one of the lower paid players, which certainly does not reflect his performance.
Vladimir Coufal earns just over £30,000 a week. The likes of Yarmolenko, who sat on the substitutes’ bench for most of last season, is on £115,000 a week.
In the 2020/2021 season, the Czech back was clearly one of the best at West Ham, plus he had an incredibly good Euro, so one would expect that David Sullivan and David Gold (the club’s owners) might come up with an adequate upgrade to his contract.
But that didn’t happen! The representatives of the Czech national team brushed the “improvement” off the table, now it remains to be seen if the club’s top brass will come up with a better offer or throw Coufal overboard. Either way, the Kladivari fans are clearly on the side of the Czech player and the owners’ actions have angered them.
Fans’ reaction and support for Coufal
“Vlad, you are a warrior! I can’t wait to see you in the Premier League again. You deserve more, don’t worry, you’ll get what you deserve soon, ” one West Ham fan tweeted to Coufal.
“Apologise to us for our owners. Please stay for the fans, we love you,” wrote another.
“The owners don’t represent us, we love and respect you,” was another of the many encouraging comments.
Vladimir Coufal’s post is literally teeming with encouraging comments and it is clear that he has already won the hearts of the fans. If he stays at West Ham despite his contract not being improved, we can expect him to receive a lot more appreciation from the fans.
There is also, of course, the option on the table that Sullivan and Gold will make another better offer for Coufal.
