Vladimír Coufal started the Europa League semi-final rematch against Eintracht Frankfurt in the starting line-up of West Ham and played 87 minutes. After a 0:1 defeat, the Hammers had to bow their heads to the German team and bid farewell to the EL. The Czech right-back made a great impression on the English football public and WHU fans, why?
After the final whistle, which after the 1: 2 and 0: 1 results from WHU’s point of view, meant the advancement of Frankfurt, the home fans of Eintracht couldn’t contain themselves and stormed the field of play en masse.
The passionate fans decided to celebrate the big promotion to the EL final directly with their favourites and it was something to behold. But there are dark sides to events like this. Anything can happen in such moments, after all it is a crowd frenzy.
That’s why most of the West Ham players quickly left for the booths, but Vladimir Coufal is a little bit different.
Amongst the frenzied crowd, he made his way right in front of the visiting sector of West Ham fans and applauded them for their support. See for yourself!
And what did the Czech defender have to say to one of West Ham’s chief journalists Roshane Thomas? “I wasn’t scared. If the fans attacked me it wouldn’t be my problem, it would be theirs.”
Coufal has understandably earned huge respect in England and among West Ham supporters. A tweet by Roshane Thomas with the 29-year-old’s words has nearly 6,000 likes and plenty of positive comments. The Czech international’s actions have also been praised by the two biggest Hammers fan sites.
