West Ham’s misery continues. After a lucky FA Cup win, they fell to Wolverhampton 0-1. They dropped to 18th place, just a point ahead of last-placed Southampton. Daniel Podence was the referee.

After a cautious start, it was the home side who struck first. Matheus Nunes from the edge of the box failed to surprise Lukasz Fabianski, who made the save. Wolves were more active from the start, the misery of the last few weeks was evident.

It wasn’t until the 31st minute that the Hammers responded. Vladimír Coufal, the Czech national team right back, headed the ball in from the edge of the box. He hadn’t scored for West Ham so far, but this time his attempt was stopped by the home defence.

The final quarter of an hour of the first half belonged to the Hammers. There was no great pressure, no danger to knot the home goal. After an uninspiring first half, it was goalless.

Right after the change of sides, the score changed for the first time. Wolves struck traditionally from a break, a sharp and accurate attempt by Daniel Podence had no chance to stop Lukasz Fabianski, assisted by the Spaniard Adama Traoré.

West Ham subsequently played the ball, but without any surprising ideas. Tomas Soucek left the game in the 60th minute.

And in the 74th minute, it was almost over. First Ruben Neves hit the crossbar, then Ait Nouri hit the bar from the rebound.

In the 80th minute, the home side made their first big mistake of the game, but Jarrod Bowen punished it with a poor finish. The Hammers’ final push did no good and after losing 0-1 they drop to 18th place. Wolves are two places and two points higher.
