The Beautiful Game! That’s what the organisers called the charity match of football stars past and present, hosted at Exploria Stadium in Orlando, Orlando, overseas. And the competition itself certainly lived up to its name.
In El Clásico, each fought on their own side of the barricade, and this time, too, the former Brazilian stars faced off against each other. However, this time it wasn’t about the result, but about having fun, which was also to help a good cause.
Ronaldinho and Roberto Carlos assembled their star-studded teams, selecting from players who have already ended their illustrious careers, as well as those who are still fighting for world trophies.
It is no wonder then that star names such as Brazilian phenom Ronaldo Nazário, Rivaldo and Nigerian ball wizard Jay-Jay Okocha have been brought together on the same pitch alongside the likes of Vinicius Jr. and Paulo Dybala.
Past and present football stars hit the field and it was a magical night
The nature of the match was, of course, reflected in the game itself, and fans were able to see plenty of football parades and beautiful goals.
Perhaps the most beautiful goals were scored by Okocha and Vinícius. The Nigerian opened the scoring as early as the tenth minute after a beautiful dribble that gave a flashback to the moments when Okocha entertained the entire football world with his skills.
The goal by Vinícius showed from the very beginning how entertaining football can be. Ronaldinho played his typical role, playing with the fans and sending a fluffy centre to the young Vinícius, who sent the ball behind the goalkeeper’s back with a beautiful lob.
The match was eventually won 4-3 by Ronaldinho’s team before the match had to be abandoned prematurely. The official reason given was the unfavourable conditions, with heavy rain covering the pitch.
However, the real cause, according to the Daily Star, was the intrusion of a flood of fans onto the pitch who wanted to take pictures with the legendary footballers. For the best moments of the game, check out the video below.
