VIDEO: Macek gave a phenomenal performance at Štvanica and after an “anaconda” he claimed the title
Filip Macek is an excellent fighter. But unfortunately underrated. This is mainly due to two title matches, in which he seemed to burn out and failed to perform optimally. But now he is back and showed his qualities at Štvanica. Understandably, he asked for another chance.
Filip Macek is an excellent fighter. But unfortunately underrated. This is mainly due to two title matches, in which he seemed to burn out and failed to perform optimally. But now he is back and showed his qualities at Štvanica. Understandably, he asked for another chance.
Macek didn’t manage the two most important fights
Filip Macek is a legend of the domestic scene. He is not afraid of anyone, he fights with everyone. Thanks to that he has a rather wild record, having won 27 fights, lost 16 and drawn once. He has only recently celebrated his 31st birthday.
It’s no wonder he’s one of the top bantamweights in the Octagon. After all, he almost regularly puts on great performances. But the two most important fights he didn’t even make it once. Unfortunately, he had to face the criticism of the fans after them and even had to endure booing during them.
The first time he was unable to beat Tomáš Deák in a title fight in September 2019, and the second title fight was against Jonas Magard in the Octagon last November. He lost both on points, both more or less clearly.
Will he get a third chance? He was on a roll at Stvanica
Macek didn’t have it easy after his loss to Magard. He faced adversity, distrust. He needed to repair his reputation. He won the very next fight and now he was in a tough fight at Štvanica.
At the OKTAGON 34 tournament he faced Mikael Silander, a very experienced fighter, who among others defeated the aforementioned Deák. It was going to be an interesting fight, but Macek took the reins right from the start.
He was creative in his stance, tried different kicks, jumped knees, and dismantled his opponent like a Swiss watchmaker. With precision. It was all over in the first round. Macek successfully finished the anaconda choke.
In the post-fight interview, he was seething with emotion. “I’m happy. I need to fix my reputation and this helped me. I would like a title shot for the third time. I’m going to beat this Magard, I’m going to get that title. I can beat anyone, I just have to have a good day,” Macek let it be heard.
Promoter Ondřej Novotný asked the fans if they would give him a title fight. The response was clear. The packed Štvanice agreed.
And what did Magard say? “Let’s dance again,” the bantamweight champion commented on Mack’s victory on Instagram. So it seems he definitely has no problem with a rematch.
