Vladimír Coufal is not having the best season, as he was sitting on the bench in the autumn and struggling with injuries. However, he has returned to the squad this spring and is helping West Ham to salvation. This time with an assist.
After the last two seasons, when West Ham played in cups and even attacked the Champions League rungs, this season came a big sobering.
The Hammers have returned to the relegation battle they were struggling in when Tomas Soucek arrived. Before this round of 32, they were up to fifteenth in the Premier League with only three points behind relegated Everton.
West Ham went into the game at Bournemouth, their neighbours in the table, knowing that it was a very important game that could bounce Soucek and co. off the bottom of the table.
And so David Moyes’ charges approached it. As early as the fifth minute, Michael Antonio opened the scoring when he took advantage of an Aaron Creswell corner kick.
But the second full-back didn’t let the second goal put him to shame either. Just seven minutes later, Vladimir Coufal notched his first assist of the season.
On the right wing, he brilliantly chipped the ball to Bowen and immediately sprinted on to the rebound. The Englishman immediately returned it to him, Coufal pushed the ball and sent a fluffy centre to the back post over the defender.
There, Lucas Paquetá jumped highest and sent the ball into the net. It was a dream start for West Ham and thanks to Coufal’s work, they were quickly 2-0 up.
