Boxing suffered one of the biggest knockouts of recent years. The boxing world was hit with the unexpected news that the legendary Tyson Fury had to pull out of his fight with Oleksandr Usyk just fifteen days before the fight was due to take place due to a nasty injury.

“I can only apologize to all concerned, including my own team, Usyk’s team, the fighters on the card, partners and fans. As well as to our hosts and my friends in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” Fury wrote on his Instagram.

“I’m absolutely devastated after preparing for this fight for so long and being in such great shape. I feel sorry for everyone involved in this huge event. And I will work hard to reschedule once my eye heals,” his official statement read.

A video of the training incident was leaked on social media

As we stated in a previous article, Fury suffered a laceration above his eye while training. This has ruled him out of the upcoming fight. As a result, the fight has been postponed and recovery is said to take several months.

A video of the said training session was also leaked on social media. In it, both men can be seen getting into a clinch, during which a dirty punch came. He then tore the skin over the undefeated Brit’s eye.

In slow motion, you can see that it was an illegal elbow strike. Which, considering it was only a training round, is an incomprehensible short-circuiting of a sparring partner. This is said to be an unnamed boxer of Croatian descent.

However, he will now have to answer for the fact that his dirty punch ruined one of the greatest boxing matches in modern boxing history. Fans will have to wait a while for that one again, though.
