Vemola couldn’t get to his feet on his own after the KO. Shock, I’ve never seen him do that. He started to play a game that is not his, says coach Reinders
Karlos Vémola has to bite another bitter defeat. Two losses in one year? Not what the Terminator is used to. And to see him knocked out? Virtually no one’s used to that. How does his trainer Andre Reinders feel about the fight?
Karlos Vemola has to bite another bitter defeat. Two losses in one year? Not what the Terminator is used to. And to see him knocked out? Virtually no one is used to that. How does his trainer, Andre Reinders, feel about the fight?
The only man to do it so far is Attila Végh in the Match of the Century. That was November 2019. The Slovakian legend ended Terminator’s streak of 11 straight wins. Since then, until May 2023, Vemola has only won again.
In May, he was beaten on points by Patrik Kincl. After that, however, the Olomouc native managed two fights and won both. He wanted to fight Kincl again, but he refused. However, Samuel Krištofič, a long-time rival of Terminator, accepted the big challenge.
The pirate was the big underdog. Vemola, who constantly questioned the quality of his opponent, was perhaps too confident in his position as a big favourite. But that backfired hard.
What did Karlos Vemola do wrong?
Samuel Kristofich became only the second man to knock out the Terminator. He did it even faster than his compatriot Attila Végh. Végh did it in 2:07, the Pirate in 1:48.
“I’m shocked. Nobody expected it. I warned before the match that Pirate was a damn dangerous opponent, but I was still surprised. I expected a different course, but Pirate was well prepared. He showed that he has improved his defense a lot,” coach André Reinders told Sport.cz.
“Karlos was a bit unnecessary and got dragged into the shootout. Maybe he was forced into it by the good Pirate defense. On the other hand, when he hit a few shots, he probably smelled blood. Pirate is much more experienced at this. Karlos got sucked into a game that is not his,” says Vémol’s coach.
The tactics were clear. Get Kristofich down. Hit him first, then deliver the takedown. But none of that more or less worked for Terminator, and Vemola was finished hard.
“Unfortunately, the shootout lasted too long and the Pirate was able to hit it. I’ve never seen that with Karlos before. Of course, it’s always a sad sight for anyone, but let’s hope he gets back from this quickly,” Reinders also commented on the fact that Vemola couldn’t stand on his own after the KO and had to be helped by paramedics.
And what about Terminator’s health? He was unconscious after the knockout and went to the hospital afterwards. According to the trainer, he was conscious and communicating after the fight, so he believes his charge is fine.
