Végh reminisced about the match with Vémolá on the anniversary: Reward for 30 years of hard work! Does he hint at an upcoming rematch?
It was 2019. All the attention of the MMA community was focused on one fight. It was long overdue. Enough to bring a large number of new fans to the Octagon and combat sports in general, to gain attention and change the perception of MMA. And it did. Now its winner has briefly revisited the fight.

The most important fight in the history of Czechoslovak MMA, the Fight of the Century. That’s how the fight between the best fighters of the Czech Republic and Slovakia under the cover of the Octagon was promoted.
When Karlos Vémola and Attila Vegh were scheduled to face off in the sold-out O2 Arena on November 9, 2019, it was written about everywhere. It was talked about even among people who otherwise didn’t follow combat sports and had no knowledge of them.
Some may question the “Fight of the Century” label, but at least in terms of how it changed the perception and popularity of MMA in our country, questioning it is beside the point.
Vegh has created quite a sensation. He was supposed to be the underdog, he was the underdog. Vémola has created an aura of almost unbeatable. But at the weigh-in the day before the fight, something changed. The Slovakian legend’s now iconic staredown signaled what was about to happen in the cage.
After two minutes and seven seconds, it was all over. Végh was able to knock out Vemola and bring the fight to a quick end. He hasn’t appeared in an MMA fight since, while the Olomouc native still dreams of a rematch, which could very well happen next year.
“It’s 3 years today, my Karlita. How the time flies. Some people see the fight as just 2 minutes and 7 seconds, but for me it was a reward for 30 years of hard work. Never forget that nothing in life is free. Sí júú,” Végh recalled his win on social media on Wednesday.
Besides, he also posted a video on Instagram of his preparation for the now legendary match. The goal was clear. Don’t trashtalk, don’t solve anything. Végh himself claimed that Vémola had awakened the Neanderthal in him. And when it was all over, the legendary phrase: “I’ve had my fill.”
