Tomas Vaclik has been officially confirmed as a fresh acquisition by Olympiakos. He signed as a free agent after leaving Sevilla in Spain, who no longer wanted him.
This will be Vaclik’s third foreign engagement. In the past he worked in Basel and Seville.
He will replace Portuguese goalkeeper Jose Sá, who will now play for Wolverhampton in England.
Rui Patricio is leaving the club and his new destination will be AS Roma. The Portuguese will move to the Italian club for 11 million euros.
This transfer helped Vaclik a lot in his decision making. Already a former Sevilla goalkeeper, he will be the team’s clear number one. The Czech goalkeeper can make his debut in a week’s time, when Olympiacos will face the second preliminary round of the Champions League.
Olympiacos did not disclose the length of Vaclik’s contract, but the Greek media is talking about a two-year contract with an option to extend it for another year.
Vaclik has played 42 games for the national team so far, and was one of the main contributors to the success at the just-ended European Championship, helping the team reach the quarter-finals.
