Vemola’s opponent in Liberec will be the Samoan puncher Al Matavao
Oktagon MMA made its debut yesterday in Munich’s Audi Dome, where the first tournament of the new year of the biggest domestic MMA organization took place. During the gala event, the organization traditionally revealed the news that fans can look forward to.
Probably the biggest stir in the fan community was the reveal of the opponent of Karlos Vemola, around whom there was quite a stir. It is the Samoan Al Matavao, who is very well known to the Oktagon fans.
He has fought three duels in the organization, in which he showed some serious bombs in his gloves. In his first bout, he gave a good fight to Pirate Kristofich, but lost the match on points. In the next two fights, however, the proverbial grenades were flying through the air, with which he finished Pavel Salčák and Marek Mazúch.
Fans, however, accuse the Oktagon management of Matavao being a pure posturing fighter who will be mere fodder for Vemola.
While the organization had previously announced that this would be more of a warm-up fight for its biggest star before his war with rival Patrik Kinclo, it still came under fire from critics.
A useless match, evaluated the news of the rival Patrik Kincl
The champion Kincl also joined the side of the haters, calling the fight between Vemola and Matava as downright useless. “For Karel it is the perfect opponent for an easy win,” said Kincl in an interview for iSport. “Matava was beaten by Pirat, who was a ‘fake’ champion according to Karl. From my point of view, it’s a useless match.”
“Personally, I was expecting someone from the second hundred of the rankings, but to see him in the third one surprised me,” Kincl said about the Samoan fighter. He is ranked 225th in the middleweight rankings according to Fightmatrix. For the record, Patrik Kincl holds the 57th place in the same ranking.
The fight with Matavao will take place at the Oktagon 41 gala in Liberec, which takes place just five weeks before the spectacular rematch with Kincl. Let’s hope Terminator doesn’t get hurt in his fight with Samoan and we get to see the biggest story of the domestic MMA scene unfold.
