Trouble on the Octagon scale! The German outweighed by 3.6 kilos, Al Matavao even by five
Weighing is part of combat sports. However, it is often surprising how much some people exceed their agreed limit. Even the Octagon, whose two fighters missed weight by several kilograms, had trouble.

The Oktagon 37 tournament is just around the corner. It takes place this Saturday and we can look forward to two title fights. But the weigh-ins were not without their problems.
On Friday morning, we saw several unmet limits. The very first wrestler was in big trouble. Specifically, it was Brazilian Felipe da Silva Maia, who, though propped up, barely made weight.
He was 1.3 kilos overweight, but he was definitely not the worst. Germany’s Ozan Aslaner came in relatively exhausted and knew full well what was to follow.
He was 3.6 kilos overweight and Ondrej Novotny wondered if he heard right. Afterwards he exchanged a few sentences with the wrestler and the wrinkles on his forehead remained.
But he himself probably had no idea what would follow. Twenty-eight-year-old Al Matavao, who has a 1:1 streak in the Octagon and previously fought for a UFC contract as part of the Contender, actually missed weight by 5 kilograms!
He certainly couldn’t have been able to drop that much weight in two hours, so he will have to forfeit some of his paycheck, or it’s quite possible we won’t even see him in the cage on Saturday.
So we definitely don’t envy the promoters of Oktagon these incidents from the weigh-ins. But hopefully it won’t affect the tournament in any significant way and we will be able to look forward to a proper show.
After all, we haven’t seen any problems with both title fighters and they all showed that they are exemplary professionals.
