This year I’ll be back as a fighter, Attila Végh tells his fans. Why does he see Vemola as his equal opponent?
Attila Végh gets back to striking. After knocking out Karlos Vemola, he took to the trainer’s lane and stepped into the boxing ring for an exhibition bout. But now he’s back in full training for the coveted rematch of the Fight of the Century.

Four years since the Match of the Century, Octagon has already announced the rematch
After four long years, the fans have arrived, the Match of the Century has its sequel. A month ago, Oktagon MMA confirmed a rematch of the most anticipated fight of the Czechoslovak MMA scene.
Karlos Vémola has been mowing down one opponent after another since losing the Match of the Century. A memorable knockout by Attila Vegh brought out the lion in him again and since then he has managed to get six wins in a row and is currently the Octagon’s welterweight champion.
It was his opponent Attila Végh who retired from professional wrestling and began training at his Spartakus Fight Gym. In 2021, he stepped into the boxing ring for an exhibition match with Patrik Kinclo and enjoyed his moment of fame in the media space.
In just one month, we will see another boxing exhibition from him when he takes on Eric Spicely at Fight Night Challenge 4. Fans know him from his fights in the Octagon and Fabrique, but he also has experience in the UFC, the most famous MMA league in the world.
Still, all the attention around his person is directed to the expected rematch with Vemola. What will his preparation for the rematch of the Fight of the Century look like and how does he view his rival?
Attila Végh returns to full training and expects the same result
“This year I decided to put aside show business and come back as a fighter because I miss it a little bit,” said Attila in an interview with REFRESHER. “Although I am 38 years old and not the youngest anymore, physically I feel good.”
“I don’t feel like I’m fighting a young 20-year-old bull anymore, but rather my equal. I still treat Karlos as an equal opponent in that he has the same years and fights as me and I’ve already beaten him once. So I think I have found the recipe to beat him,” he believes in repeating the result of the first fight.
And how difficult will it be to get back to his former form after a four-year break? “The preparation will be tougher because I didn’t feel the physical strength in his game, which is his strongest point. I’ve been training since January, but to have that match feeling, I’ll train until the match.”
While Octagon has not yet announced a date for the potential duel, it is expected that the organization will target the rematch for the end of the year. It has become a tradition to hold the tournament at the end of December at Prague’s O2 Arena, which is the perfect setting for such a big fight.
