Theft? No, even though I saw the game differently, Novotný says of the controversial draw. Czech should have lost, fans agree
You don’t want to lose your winnings? Don’t leave it up to the judges. More or less one of the basic rules of MMA, which the vast majority of fighters at OKTAGON 41 took as an example. But we did see one controversial result that many disagree with. Not even Ondrej Novotny.
You don’t want to lose your winnings? Don’t leave it up to the judges. More or less one of the basic rules of MMA, from which the vast majority of fighters at OKTAGON 41 took their cue. But we did see one controversial result that many disagree with. Not even Ondrej Novotny.
He was a big favourite, but he didn’t confirm his role. Robin Foshum returned to the cage after more than two years and fans were very excited to see him back. But the Czech fighter didn’t deliver the performance that was expected of him.
His opponent was Nermin Haidarpasic, who wanted to make up for his reputation after a not so good performance against Alexander Poppeck. And unlike his opponent, he pleasantly surprised the Liberec audience.
With the exception of the beginning of the match, when Fošum got him on the ground and tried to put on a choke, and maybe the last minute of the duel, Hajdarpašič was clearly better. After all, he had made his own very visible mark on Fošum’s face.
When the result of the fight went to be announced, even promoter Ondrej Novotny believed the Swede had scored the win. But everything was different when the fight ended in a draw.
Interestingly, all three judges saw the fight differently. One of them saw Fošum winning, the second one Hajdarpašič, the third one saw a draw.
And what did Novotny say? “We saw it more like 2:1 on rounds for Haidarpasic, but we are not referees. It’s possible that Haidarpasic didn’t have that first round because Foshum tried to choke him out. It’s not stealing in my eyes, it was a close result,” he said at the press conference.
Hajdarpashic, however, doesn’t see the result as a problem. He doesn’t feel robbed and surprisingly agrees with the draw. The fans, however, are different, they saw him win and they don’t agree with the result, even criticize it.
In addition, some cite concerns that the Octagon will be seen as a traditional Eastern European organization where it’s hard for foreign fighters to win on points. However, these concerns are more or less overblown, as there is certainly no systemic disadvantage to foreign fighters in the Octagon.
