Marpo complained about Vemola’s fouls after losing the fight
We already informed you yesterday that the ring referee broke his silence regarding the controversial ending of the fight between Karlos Vemola and Marpo. In an interview he tried to explain his decision, which outraged most of the professional and non-professional public.
The termination was not the only topic that caused a stir. At the post-match press conference, Marpo pointed out that although he expected fouls from Vemola, he took about thirty headers and had to face several shots below the belt.
The referee didn’t see any headbutts or low blows, Vémola won fair and square
After some time, ring referee Jan Frána commented on the fouls and gave an extensive interview to the daily iSport. Although the cameras caught the referee admonishing Vémola several times during the match, he allegedly did not see the obvious fouls.
“I verbally warned Karel several times to raise his head,” Frána told i Sport. “My primary concern was that he not give a header,” he also pointed out the fouls.
“You know what, even if you look at professional matches, sometimes they lean their heads against each other, it happens,” the referee assessed the nature of Vémol’s head pressure. “But there was no deliberate head attack, that Karel actually hit the head,” he said.
“If I saw a punch below the belt, I would point it out, but unfortunately I didn’t see any,” he also responded to Marpa’s complaints about prohibited punches to the private parts. “There were some blows that went to the end of the shorts, but if there was a blow below the waist, I didn’t see it,” he added.
