Moldovan eagle Ion Taburceanu rushes into the Octagon
The Octagon returns to Slovakian territory after more than a year. This Saturday, we will see the Oktagon 42 tournament at the Ondrej Nepela Winter Stadium in Bratislava, which will culminate in a title fight for the interim featherweight champion between Losen Keita and Jakub Tichota.
However, the fans’ attention will surely also turn towards the main pre-fight of the gala. In his debut fight in the Octagon, Moldova’s Ion Taburceanu, who has competed in Eastern European organizations and most recently appeared in the Austrian Cage Fight Series tournament, will take part.
Now, he’ll show up for Czechoslovakian fans in an organization that resonates in various corners of Europe. This was confirmed in an interview with Ruik by the fighter himself. ” I already knew about Oktagon before the first contact, it is well known in Moldova,” Taburceanu revealed. “We have big organizations in Moldova too.”
The Moldovan eagle didn’t get an easy task from the promoters when he faces the darling of the Slovakian public, Vlasta Cepa. The Slovakian tank is a knockout machine and has never looked past the second round in his winning fights. Taburceanu is certainly no slouch either though and relishes stand-up shootouts.
Fans should expect a war of attitudes, Cepa plans to finish by the second round
“My fighting style is a non-stop hammer striker,” confirms that we should expect some serious bombs right from the start of the fight. “As a little kid I wanted to become an MMA fighter and fight in the biggest European organizations, I call myself the eagle from Moldova,” he described his story.
He fights at middleweight, but has also shown his skills in the welterweight division. So which weight class would he like to compete in? “I want to fight at middleweight. The fight with Chepa will be in my favour, the fans should bet on me,” he said in response to the fact that the Slovakian fighter is the favourite of the bookmakers.
Soon the battle for the middleweight king will take place between Patrik Kinclo and Karlos Vemola. Would he dare to take on either of them in case of a victory over Cep and does he even know them? “I don’t know Patrik Kinclo, but I would definitely have confidence in both of them,” he believes in his abilities.
MMA is very popular in Moldova, which was certainly helped by Gamechanger Pyramid participant Ion Surdu. “I know him very well, I followed his fights closely for 5 years,” said Taburceanu. And would he like to follow in the footsteps of the most famous Moldovans in the field of the biggest organization in the world UFC, where Ion Cutelaba and Sergey Spivac fight? “I ‘m already following in their footsteps.”
And what is his message to the fans of the domestic MMA scene? “I’m going for the head of this Chepa, it will be a fight full of punches, I promise. Fans, watch for the arrival of the eagle from Moldova,” he said, hoping for a big fight.
The Moldovan has a pro record of 6-1 and none of his fights have gone to the judges on points. So will we see the battle of the night before the highlight of the tournament?
