On Monday, the biggest domestic MMA organization Oktagon released the first episode of the new Oktagon Challenge with the subtitle “A new era begins”. In the article below we will introduce the format of the reality show and its participants.

As we recently informed you, the MMA organization Oktagon is expanding into the German market and is trying to reach the huge audience of our western neighbor. Not only will a star-studded mixed martial arts gala called Oktagon 33 take place in Frankfurt in early June, but the filming of the reality show Oktagon Challenge also took place in Germany.

The format of the reality show Oktagon Challenge

The format of the reality show is a pyramid of eight fighters living together in one villa. In the individual episodes, the eight up-and-coming talents will try to fight their way to the grand finale. At Oktagon 33 in Frankfurt’s Festhalle, which will then take place on 4 June, the two best fighters from the Challenge will face each other in the cage.

To be well prepared for the biggest moment of their careers, they will receive tips and tricks from the biggest stars of the German fight scene. One team will be led by fighters familiar to Oktagon fans, Christian Eckerlin and Stephan Puetz. Against them will be a team led by brothers David and Martin Zawad.

The fighters must face seven challenges

The teams will face off against each other in seven different challenges.

#1 Challenge: In exciting and fun challenges that are outside of the fighters’ daily lives in the cage, teams play for two crucial advantages. The winning team has the right to assemble individual pairs of wrestlers during fight week. On the other hand, the losing team must clean house.

#2 Exercise: Coaches prepare their charges as best they can for the fight. They give valuable advice and can also learn something from their fierce charges.

#3 Training and Crashing:: Just like in real life, fighters have to make their weight. Otherwise, the big dream will burst. Here comes the inevitable big drama!

#4 Fighting: What would a fight show be without fighting? On the last day of each episode, a fight occurs. Whoever wins is in the semi-finals. The loser is eliminated, but can still get important training tips!

Introducing each team

1. Team Puetz/Eckerlin::

Antonio Bila:: A 24-year-old fighter training for two years at MMA Spirit, the home of Puetz and Eckerlin’s martial arts. He was addicted to drugs as a teenager and has brought honesty and order back into his life through MMA.

Selim Topuz:: At 34, he is the oldest fighter in the Challenge. Topuz has trained several times with Jiri Prochazka’s potential UFC opponent, Alexander Rakic.

Ali Nasir:: The tall25-year-old fighter has been training in the spirit of MMA for years. Outside the cage he studies philosophy, a very strange combination!

Ibrahim Cholo:: He trained with our KSW Patrik Kinceloe’s conqueror Robert Soldic at the UFD Gym in Düsseldorf. His agile moves are a real threat to any opponent.

2. Team Zawada Brothers::

Simeon Kapuya:: The 23-year-old fights for Cologne’s Prang Sports Academy. In his only professional fight so far, he celebrated a significant knockout at the “We Love MMA 40” event.

Hassan Shaaban:: “Hassan Diaz”, his nickname after the Diaz brothers of the UFC, started the sport at the age of 16. Now he belongs to the famous UFD Gym in Düsseldorf. It’s no surprise that the 20-year-old is one of the Challenge’s biggest favorites.

Endrit Brajshori:: Hailing from Rosenheim in Bavaria, Brajshori has always had to travel many kilometres to fight in the cage at all. The 25-year-old wants to prove that you can be successful in the sport even if you don’t come from a big city.

Jaime Cordero:: The 30-year-old German-Puerto Rican owns his own gym in Bremen. He’s forging his own path of training for the fight. He wants to win the Octagon Challenge for his young daughter.

You can watch the first episode of the reality show from Monday on the Oktagon.tv platform or on German TV Bild.tv and Bild+. You definitely have something to look forward to!
