The future of RFA? It must be terribly in the red, says Krištofič. Still, it offered more money than the Octagon. Why did he refuse?
Not long ago his future was unclear, but now it is confirmed that Samuel Kristofich will take part in the second Oktagon tournament on German soil in Frankfurt in less than a month. He had offers from RFA, Bellator and PFL in addition to Oktagon. Why did he turn them down and what does he say about RFA?
Not long ago his future was unclear, but now it is confirmed that Samuel Kristofich will take part in the second Oktagon tournament on German soil in Frankfurt in less than a month. He had offers from RFA, Bellator and PFL in addition to Oktagon. Why did he turn them down and what does he say about RFA?
Samuel Kristofich last appeared in the Oktagon cage in February. As the interim champion, he took on Patrik Kinclo for the rightful middleweight title. He clearly lost the five-round battle on points and his future was in the stars.
The Slovakian fighter has long been courted by the American Bellator, which has also made two concrete offers. In both cases, it was a last-minute fight, moreover, at welterweight. The Pirate was only recently active in the welterweight division.
Bellator is seen as the second best organization in the world after the UFC. Kristofich sees it the same way. “If an interesting offer came, I would like to fight there. Even on “short notice”, if they offered decent money and I was in shape. But I don’t need to push it,” he told Sport.sk.
The Pirate did not reveal what the money is. However, he says the first offer from Bellator was significantly higher than what he is getting in the Octagon. In the second case, he was offered less. However, other organizations were also interested, namely the PFL and RFA.
“The RFA offered me similar money as the Octagon. Maybe 10 to 15 percent more. But Oktagon is a brand that has power and I’m much more associated with. It’sone of the best organizations in Europe, I feel comfortable there and we found a compromise in financial terms,” Pirate said.
The controversial fighter is under contract for six fights in the Octagon. If an offer from the UFC or Bellator comes in, he can leave. His goal is the title. However, he also spoke more about the “competitive” RFA, where he could leave.
RFA must be in a significant deficit, says Kristofich
“I can’t see into their kitchen and I don’t know what they’re planning. I’m sure that after the tournaments so far they must be in a significant deficit. I’m sure they’re not going to be happy subsidising it indefinitely. It is quite possible that the RFA will not last,” Pirate opined.
Among other things, Kristofich admitted that he sees the Octagon as one of the top five organizations in the world. This was also the reason why he did not sign a contract with the new Slovak organization, which plans to expand abroad, specifically to the eastern market.
