Danish Shark Jonas Magard made his Oktagon debut on September 11, 2021. Two months later, he was hoisting the organization’s bantamweight championship belt over his head when he defeated Filip Mack in Pardubice.
He was supposed to have a rematch with him later, but due to an injury, Macek faced Gustavo Lopez, with the American emerging as the winner. The latter was another opponent of the plain-spoken Dane, who dominated the match.
But the next title defence was not successful. Magard was challenged by Brazilian Felipe Lima, who had not fought since last summer. He wants his title back and he claimed it with a win over Jack Cartwright.
Magard on his way out of the Oktagon?
The Danish fighter is linked to the Oktagon and few could have imagined his departure. He’s thrived in the cage and the Czech-Slovak organization has a relatively good name, which is why it manages to attract fighters even under possibly worse financial conditions.
Moreover, Magard is valuable for the Oktagon because he stirs emotions. Some love him, others hate him. The reason is his frequent trash talk, which is strikingly reminiscent of his role model Conor McGregor.
Following his example, he has now decided to post on Instagram the words “Thanks for the cheese, I’m out, bye.”
He first posted the words on stories, but then pinned them between classic published photos to get them noticed by as many people as possible. Now it’s just a question of whether he’s serious about leaving or just trying to put some pressure on the organization.
