The domestic MMA scene could look completely different! Octagon in the beginning received a high offer from XFN, promoters refused
The days when the domestic scene was dominated by fights between XFN and Oktagon are gone. But back then, the current number one got a really attractive offer from the competition and if it had been accepted, our MMA scene would have looked completely different. What kind of offer was it?
The days when the domestic scene was dominated by fights between XFN and Oktagon are gone. But back then, the current number one got a really attractive offer from the competition and if it had been accepted, our MMA scene would have looked completely different. What kind of offer was it?
Oktagon is the number one on the domestic MMA scene, but it wasn’t always so. In the past, for example, the XFN organization ruled the roost and had the biggest names under its wing.
However, Oktagon gradually took over the fighters through consistent and quality work and eventually basically destroyed the competition. Although it was more likely the bad work of XFN.
However, in the early days of the Octagon, XFN made an offer, the acceptance of which would greatly influence what our MMA scene would look like now. What exactly was the deal?
“When XFN’s finance guy came to us and offered us, I guess we can say it now, 2 million euros for OKTAGON at the time, that he would buy it from us. This was before Štvanica, sometime after OKTAGON 2 or 4. It was very early. It was in the spring of 2017.
He came to give us €2 million and we were talking about it at the time, that someone was offering us €2 million for something that certainly wasn’t worth that much at the time. Future yes, but only we knew that.
That was the only time we talked about it, that two million? Hm, but three minutes later we knew we weren’t interested at all,” said Pavol Neruda in an interview with Progresus Invest Holding.
That amount would certainly convince most people, but in the end the promoters of Oktagon made the right decision and built something unprecedented.
