The new face of the Octagon? Felipe Lima has a big debut ahead of him, a title fight with Jonas Magard awaits. In an interview with Ruik, the Brazilian fighter with a record of 11-1 revealed that several fighters have already turned down the fight with him. How does he see a fight with the champion?

Felipe Lima: From the Amazon to a world title shot

Although he will be a newcomer to the Octagon, he has already managed to make a name for himself in Europe. Felipe Lima has an 11-1 record, with his only loss coming in his first professional fight. Moreover, he has already managed to become the champion of the Swedish Fight Club Rush organization.

In Sweden, the number one media outlet in the MMA world, Frontkick.online, sees him as one of the biggest prospects outside of the UFC. After all, the talented fighter is still only 25 years old. And what is his story?

“I come from a place in the middle of the Amazon, it’s called Coari. I would describe myself as a champion. I came all the way from the Amazon to here to follow my dream. I am a very attractive fighter, when I step into the cage I always deliver a great fight,” he expressed to Ruik.

And why the move to Sweden? “Because of my dream, not because of the attention. I do it for my family as well. I moved for a good chance to change the life of my whole family and to show the world that I am a great fighter.”

But at the end of July, a big test awaits him. He will face reigning champion Jonas Magarde in his Octagon debut.

I’m grateful for the chance, several opponents turned me down, says Lima

Felipe Lima has been watching the Octagon for a long time. “I had the opportunity to see some fights and I fell in love with the way Oktagon works. I’m really grateful for this chance.”

He’s been sparring with Jonas Magarde for a long time. “Magard is my target because he has the title in the Octagon. I want to be a world champion in the Octagon,” the 25-year-old Brazilian makes no secret of his big ambitions.

He could have introduced himself to the organization before, but there’s a catch. “Several fighters refused to fight me. That’s also why I’m fighting for the belt. I won’t mention specific names. Because in the end I will get what I want,” Lima let it be known.

Bookmakers see the Brazilian prospect as an underdog. But would that bother Lima? Not at all. “I love being an outsider. When you’re an outsider, you’re more dangerous. I really like it,” he admits.

He also revealed his feelings towards Magarde and the ideal scenario: “ I don’t have any special feelings towards him. He’s just another opponent I’m going to beat. I have it in my head that I will finish him in the second round. When you see it in your head, it becomes a reality.”

Don’t blink, it’s going to be a great show!

Felipe Lima found out about the title shot about a month before the fight. Magard was originally scheduled to fight Antuno Racich, but he can’t make the fight due to injury. But he’s not worried about that.

I was in training camp for a month before I got the fight. I always train, I never stop, so the time I found out about the match was not a problem.”

“I’m ready to fight and that’s all that matters. At the end of the day, the cage door will be closed and it will be just him and me. Jonas can talk all he wants. He’ll never get inmy head because I know what I want and what I’ll sacrifice to be here,” he also responds to Magard’s possible trash talk.

Lima also promises fans a spectacular show. One more thing he expressed great gratitude to the Octagon: ” I’m really happy for this. I will never take it for granted. I’ll give it my all for the fans and to win the belt and then keep it.”

It didn’t take much for the Brazilian to be in the UFC. However, the fight in which he was supposed to fight for the contract did not happen due to an injury to his opponent. “I can’t live in the past. Unfortunately it didn’t work out and I take it as a lesson that made me stronger,” said the 25-year-old fighter.

He concluded by adding a message to the fans: “Don’t blink during my fight because I’m going to show you great things and give you what you deserve. A big fight. Thank you.”
