Stories of the faithful: Thomas Müller and his fairy tale at Bayern Munich
Thomas Müller’s connection with Bayern Munich seems unbreakable. The German striker has played his entire career here and is one of the most loyal footballers of our time.
Thomas Müller’s connection with Bayern Munich seems unbreakable. The German striker has played his entire career here and is one of the most loyal footballers of our time.
Müller’s story with Bayern Munich began in 2000, when the German footballer was 11 years old. Before that, he only played for TSV Pähl, where he started football completely.
At Bayern Munich, he went through all the remaining youth categories up to the adult ranks. A successful season in the reserve team was enough for Müller to get a chance in the Bayern youth team, which he took. Since 2009 he has been a full member of the first team.
Thomas Müller was close to leaving after the 2010 World Cup, but instead extended his contract at Bayern for another five years. At the time, it was a rather surprising decision.
Müller’s best season as a goalscorer was the 2015/2016 season, when he managed to score 32 goals from 49 competitive games played. However, the German striker is also known for his complexity, so he regularly notches up quite a few assists.
His entire career at Bayern
His complexity can be seen in the 2019/2020 competition season, where he has assisted 26 goals from the same number of games. At that time, he formed a very cohesive duo with Robert Lewandowski.
Given that Müller has spent his entire career at Bayern, it is clear that he will have a number of trophies especially from domestic competitions. However, two Champions League titles, two Super Cup wins and dominating the Club World Cup are also worth mentioning.
But in addition to that, Müller has also had success on the international stage, celebrating winning the World Cup title in 2014. However, he has not become European champion until now, with only two third places to his name.
In terms of individual awards, Müller’s most successful tournament was the 2010 World Cup, where he was also the top scorer with five goals. At the same tournament he also won the award for the best young player of the championship.
