Sit down! How much did Octagon offer Nate Diaz to save the O2 Arena tournament?
The Octagon has dealt with huge inconveniences in recent days following the withdrawal of both main protagonists of Octagon 38. The organization even reached out to legendary UFC star Nate Diaz, but he did not accept Oktagon’s offer. How much did they offer him?
The biggest domestic MMA organization Oktagon will present the last Oktagon 38 tournament before the end of the year, which will take place on December 30 in Prague’s O2 Arena.
The gala took a huge blow just three weeks before the start when an injury to Karlos Vemola forced the organization to search for a replacement for champion Patrik Kincelo.
The organization reached out to several opponents who are sitting out a possible middleweight title fight in the Octagon.
“Nate Diaz, Tom Breese or Apollo. Patrik Kincl will not be appearing at the O₂ Arena. UFC veteran and world #76 Tom Breese has agreed to the fight, as has former #80 Apollo, who made legendary fights with Kozma or, most recently, Velickovic.
Nate Diaz unfortunately had demands that we were unable to meet,” read the Oktagon Instagram post.
Patrik Kincl himself then revealed on his social media that the mentioned opponents were indeed offered to him. However, he himself is laboring with his own injury and neither Breese nor Apollo are worth the risk.
Moreover, Ondrej Novotny confirmed on his social media that the organization offered the fight to Joker Ilic, but in the end he didn’t make it either.
The legendary Diaz, who recently fought his way out of his UFC contract, would definitely accept. However, the American veteran didn’t accept the Octagon’s offer and we’re missing out on a big attraction. Now, information has surfaced about how much the world-famous fighter has been offered by the Octagon and it’s a real blast.
“We made what I think is the biggest offer in the history of the European organization to Nate Diaz,” Novotny said on his MMA Flying Around the World podcast. “I don’t think anyone has ever offered a million euros for a fight,” he revealed the amount the former UFC legend turned down.
“But it wasn’t enough, ” he lamented. “Plus, the six-month period where the UFC still has the right to call him and he can’t actually negotiate with anyone yet, so you can’t negotiate with his management anyway,” he added.
