Silence will fight for the Octagon title in December. Contact with the UFC? Not yet, but after winning the title that will change, the 22-year-old talent hopes. How is he preparing?
Jakub Tichota is one of the biggest talents of Czech MMA. When people talk about fighters who can make it to the UFC, his name is never missing. And it’s no wonder. But now he’s about to take a different step. He could become an Octagon champion. In an interview with Ruik, he revealed how he’s preparing for the fight, and briefly commented on the UFC.
Jakub Tichota is one of the biggest talents of Czech MMA. When people talk about fighters who can make it to the UFC, his name is never missing. And it’s no wonder. The score is 5 to 0, but he hasn’t had an easy fight. Elonen in particular has tested him
Jakub Tichota is still only 22 years old, but he already has some interesting scalps. In his very first fight in the Octagon, he managed to defeat Michal Konrad. Although it was not a convincing performance, he nevertheless “strangled” his much more experienced opponent.
He also defeated Denis Trishanski and Rist Dimitrov. His last two fights were also a big test. In the first one he managed to beat Polish talent Dawid Kareta on points by unanimous decision, in March he dealt with Jann Elonen Kulmala.
Elonen has many fights under his belt, he has also fought in the M-1 organization. After all, he showed that he is not an easy opponent for anyone during his fight with Farid Basharat in the Octagon. And it was confirmed in the fight with Tichota.
“I am very happy for the fight with Elonen, because it fulfilled the purpose we went into the fight with. We knew that a seasoned opponent like Elonen would punish every little mistake and thus show us details we can work on, improve. Ifocused on all the mistakes I made in the match and I believe I corrected them,” Tichota told Ruik.
Preparing for the title match at the acclaimed Allstars Gym. How does he perceive Sanikidze?
After five wins in a row, Jakub Tichota got a big chance thanks to an injury to legendary fighter Ivan Buchinger. Although he challenged Buchinger himself and wanted to take the title from him, the Slovakian legend was knocked out by injury. The Czech talent will face Mat Sanikidz for the featherweight championship belt.
Sanikidze has two fights in the Octagon under his belt. He defeated Aleksandar Kolontay and David Moon. His style has gained a lot of attention. He also has experience in the M-1 organization. He’s going to be a big challenge for Tichota. So the 22-year-old Czech is taking his preparation seriously.
“I always try not to get out of shape and I train regardless of whether I have a fight or not. But this fight is very important for me. I know the opponent long in advance. This allows me to better plan my preparation and specialize it for a specific type of opponent. Theoverall preparation is specific because the opponent is very atypical and I don’t want to underestimate anything,” says Tichota.
The importance of the fight is confirmed by the fact that on Sunday he will fly to Sweden, where he will train in the world-renowned Allstars gym. I’m looking forward to it and promise to fine-tune the end of my fight preparation.”
Chimp to become Champ? I’m preparing for the worst case scenario, he admits
Jakub Tichota is nicknamed Chimp, but if he wins his next fight, he may change his nickname to Champ. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves: ” Sanikidze is a skilled opponent. I don’t know if he’s the toughest, but I certainly don’t expect an easy fight from him. However, I believe that I am better and that the match will clearly turn out in my favor,” he dismisses the failure.
“I’m preparing for the worst case scenario – that means 25 minutes of hard fighting. But I will try to finish the fight and I wouldn’t be angry for winning the first two rounds,” he added.
The bookmakers favour the Czech fighter. However, Tichota himself feels he is the favourite, but he says there is no danger of being underestimated. “I’m doing my preparation to the last detail,” he is clear.
And the fact that Sanikidze resorts to various digs? “I don’t mind his “trashtalk” at all,” he doesn’t let the collages the Georgian shares on social media throw him off.
UFC? No contact has been made yet. Paulus blew his chance
As mentioned, when people talk about fighters who shouldn’t be missing from the UFC in the future, Jakub Tichota is often, if not always, mentioned.
So the question was if there has been any contact yet. And how is it then? “I haven’t found the given indications yet, but I hope that after winning the title something might change,” Chimp let himself be heard.
Not long ago, he could have challenged Slovak Roman Paulus in a talent battle, but he turned down the chance in March. The Czech fighter said he would not get the chance to challenge Tichota for the title. However, it should be noted that he also lost his chance with Saturday’s defeat at the ground of the new FABRIQ MMA organization.
However, as far as Tichota is concerned, we can often find criticism under the posts in which he features because of his overconfidence. He is said to lack humility.
However, the 22-year-old fighter himself claims that nothing has changed. “I just said out loud my plans for the future. I have people around me who support me and a strong fan base, which is the main thing for me,” he concluded the interview.
The title fight will take place on December 3 in Ostrava at OKTAGON 37.
