Patrik Schick prepared an unforgettable moment for us at this year’s European Championship. The Czech forward broke records with his goal from 49.7 metres and also won the goal of the championship award. Now he has made it into the top ten selections for UEFA Goal of the Season.
Patrik Schick shone at this year’s EURO. Although he didn’t take the trophy for the king of goal scorers in the end with five goals, he received the award in a different form.
In fact, his second goal of the championship won the goal of the tournament award when he shot over the Scottish goalkeeper from the halfway line.
But it doesn’t have to stop there. The beautiful goal was also nominated for the UEFA Goal of the Season award, the best goal in all competitions organised by the Union of European Football Associations. Including the women’s and futsal ones.
But now to the nominees. Ten shots were selected, three from this year’s EURO, three from the Champions League (women’s, men’s and futsal), three from the Europa League and one from the Little Euros, the under-21 competition.
From the EURO, Pogba’s goals against Switzerland, Insigne’s against Belgium and Schick’s bomb against Scotland were selected. All these competitors should be surpassed by the Czech national team’s goal in the ranking decided by the fans, also because of the award from the championship.
Among the best goals from the Champions League was a long-range shot under the crossbar by Bayern Munich’s Sarah Zadrazil. Followed by Porto’s Taremi’s scissors in the clash with Chelsea and a goal by Ferrao, a Futsal player in the Barcelona jersey.
The Europa League trio consists of more scissors, this time by Dele Alli, a beautiful team action by Braga against Leicester and a goal by the infamous Kemar Roofe, who after a nice clearance, fired from his own half and outmuscled the runner in a similar style to Patrik Schick.
The tenth nominee is a goal by the young Florian Wirtz, who finished off a fast and handsome counter-attack by the German U21s against the Netherlands in the first minute of the match.
You can also vote for the goal of the season on the official UEFA website.
