Battle for the middleweight king of the Octagon announced
After various speculations, the fans of Czech MMA have finally arrived. On Monday morning, the biggest domestic MMA organization, Oktagon, confirmed the long-awaited battle for the middleweight king.
This is Patrik Kincl, who left nothing to chance at September’s Oktagon 35 in Brno and dominated challenger Alex Lohorý in the first round. After the fight itself, Karlos Vémola jumped into the cage and challenged the newly crowned champion.
However, Kincl didn’t want to hear anything about the fight with Vémola and wanted to enjoy the well-deserved celebrations. This, combined with Kincl’s disclosed injury, scared some mixed martial arts fans somewhat and even the challenger himself felt that Patrik was running away from the anticipated fight.
But it didn’t take long for the organization to confirm the battle for the middleweight throne. So the fears were not confirmed and we will get a spectacular fight on December 30 in Prague’s O2 Arena. Oktagon boss Ondřej Novotný revealed how difficult it was to arrange the fight.
Novotny reveals the details of the deal
“I think not at all, because they both wanted the fight,” said Novotny in an interview with iSport.cz. ” Patrik came to us to some extent for this,” he outlined that the champion himself wants to make up for the loss from 2018 in the XFN organization.
“It was one of the things we talked about back in Pardubice (the day Kincl joined the Oktagon organization) when we were talking about it,” he described the verbally confirmed agreement from last year. “We already talked about it then,” he added.
“And Karlos wants the fight too, because he wants the title and he wants to prove to everyone that it was no accident and he’s better than Kincl,” he also mentioned the top challenger position. “So luckily it wasn’t hard at all,” he rejoiced.
Let’s hope that the health of both fighters will hold and we will really see the final showdown, as the fight was called by the organization. The entire spectrum of MMA fans want to see a fight that would be a spectacular end to the fighting year.
