Matěj “Money” Peňáz, one of the biggest hopes of Czech MMA, went to Sweden. Specifically, to the Allstar Training Center in Stockholm, where the UFC’s monster Khamzat Chimaev trains.
Matěj Peňáz, who is a rising star of the biggest domestic MMA organization Oktagon, recently announced on his Instagram that he is now in Sweden.
Specifically, he is training at the Allstar Training Center gym, where the greatest fighters from the UFC train, such as Alexander Gustafsson and one of Dana White’s most valuable “commodities”, Khamzat Chimaev.
He’s even sharpening his teeth on undefeated UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya.
Penaze has switched from kickboxing to MMA
Matej Peñáz, who at 25 years old is already an experienced fighter, has been in MMA for a short time. While he has 26 professional fights in kickboxing, he didn’t have his first MMA fight until November 2020.
In fact, the former Glory fighter has decided to try his luck at Octagon Underground during the coronavirus hiatus in 2020. After the victories on the Czech side, there was to be a unification fight with the winner of the Slovak side, who was Vlasto Cepo. Unfortunately, he was injured and the match did not take place.
MMA career of Peñaz
Since then, however, Peňáz has managed five fights in 13 months in the Octagon and it was abundantly clear that a new star of the domestic scene was born. Matej won all five of his fights by KO before the limit and only in one case did he need more than a round.
At the Oktagon 30 tournament at the end of last year, he was supposed to fight with Čep, but even this time fate did not favour this duel.
The Slovakian wrestler got injured again, fortunately the promoters of Oktagon found a replacement for Peñaz in the form of the experienced 38 year old “animal” Cheick Animal Koné. He finally gave Peňáze, who liked to call his fights easy money, a real test.
At the end of the first round, Peñáz had to experience a new situation in MMA when he took a clean right hook that shook him badly. But Matej showed tremendous heart and was able to take the fight for himself in a three-round battle, in addition to delivering the fifth knockout of the fighter’s professional MMA career.
Peñaz gave an interview about training in Sweden
In an interview on the MMA Hunters YouTube channel, Penaza shared his first feelings about training in Sweden. He was especially captivated by the country as a whole, he likes the beautiful nature and the capital Stockholm, and he has an overall very pleasant feeling about the people in Sweden. Since his main strength is his attitude, he appreciates the training units focused on wrestling.
“The training sessions are great, there is a lot of wrestling here, which I need,” he describes the training sessions at the Allstar Training Center. “Gustafsson has been here since the beginning, Chimaev came from Thailand at the beginning of the week. Then there’s Darren Till,” he praises sparring with UFC stars.
Matej also guessed the course of the Krištofič vs. Kincl fight
He also reviewed the title fight for Octagon 31 between champion Samuel Krištofič and Patrik Kincl. “For me, Patrik Kincl is the favourite, ” guessed the outcome of the title fight. “I think that he will benefit from his experience and that he will be more dominant on the ground, ” highlights the experience of the Czech fighter.
