If we divide the team into two parts, defence and attack, we find that they are completely different worlds. Vieira’s charges have only managed to score 4 times in the last 10 competitive games and that’s terribly short of picking up any points.

Despite that, thanks to a few draws, they have managed to “grab” some, and that’s only thanks to a good defensive performance. Eight goals from ten games is a pretty solid number for a team playing for salvation.

Let’s add two clean sheets for the sake of completeness. So the problem is clearly offensive. Productivity and efficiency are probably the most frequently mentioned terms in the Eagles’ locker room in recent weeks.

Now it’s time for a change and a boost for a team that is only 3 points above the relegation places. There will be a coaching change. The club announced this on their Twitter account. Big names like Tite, Mauricio Pochettino, Luis Enrique, Thomas Tuchel and Zinédine Zidane are available on the market.

But these are names too big in my opinion to be afforded by a team with the budget of Crystal Palace. A more realistic option at the moment might be the likes of Rafael Benítez.

Alternatively, one of the more recently playing coaches like Frank Lampard or Steven Gerrard. Both know the Premier League like the back of their hand, both as a player and already as a coach.

It is of course true that neither of their recent engagements have been entirely successful. Particularly in the case of Frank Lampard, who was given a full year of playing time, but Everton went nowhere at all, perhaps even the opposite.

In the case of the Liverpool legend, it strikes me as a good chance to prove himself in England and lift the club. After all, it wasn’t quite the same at Aston Villa and more was expected. If Gerrard was given enough time and space, he could have lifted the Eagles game tremendously with his signature. The quality of the squad is definitely there.

We will soon find out what path the club will take. Vieira was no great coach when he joined the club either. On the contrary, it was his first engagement in this role. Maybe we’ll see something similar and someone completely new will come in, someone we haven’t seen in a coaching role before.
