Palaiologos: Jungwirth? Fool, he should have tapped out, I was ready for anything. Give me Eckerlin!
Ionnis Palaiologos has his third fight in the Octagon and finally scored his first win. It was very unexpected, but all the more sensational. Christian Jungwirth was a big favorite, but he lost in the first round and won’t fight for a while because he broke his elbow. In an interview with Ruik Palaiologos he talked about the importance of this win and his future plans.
Ionnis Palaiologos has his third fight in the Oktagon and finally scored his first win. It was very unexpected, but all the more sensational. Christian Jungwirth was a big favorite, but he lost in the first round and won’t fight for a while because he broke his elbow. In an interview with Ruik Palaiologos he spoke about the significance of this win and his future plans.
Palaiologos: Jungwirth is crazy, he should have tapped out
In his Oktagon debut, he was no match for Christian Eckerlin, then lost to Matúš Juráček, but he did well in his third fight. As an underdog, he took on a big favourite and beat the favourite Christian Jungwirth.
“The first win in the Oktagon is finally here. I am extremely excited to have scored it against the toughest possible opponent. It was the first time I actually had a full training camp. I’m just starting to show my true potential,” reports Ioannis Palaiologos.
“I sacrificed absolutely everything in the summer and I don’t regret it one bit. I made a lot of big changes, I also used mental coaching. I knew Jungwirth was crazy, I was ready for anything,” adds the confident Greek.
He ranks the win and Jungwirth himself very highly. ” Everything went according to plan, hopefully he will recover soon. We knew he would push, but with the right distance and my weapons I can destroy him.”
“I told him after the fight that it was a shame he wouldn’t be able to fight for a while now, but he should have knocked it off. As soon as I realized I had broken his elbow, I stopped fighting. For about a second I had it in my head that he could survive that situation too, but I had it so well caught that it was either a tap out or break my elbow,” Palaiologos said.
Valuable win, now I want Eckerlin, reports the Greek Emperor
It is worth mentioning that Ioannis Palaiologos had the upper hand throughout the match. He floored Jungwirth in the stand-up, then got on his back, had a rear-naked choke, but then preferred to switch to the aforementioned kimura.
“I knew he had good defense. I didn’t want to risk getting burned on one attempt. I have great jiu jitsu so I tried to get into a better position, which I did,” Greek Emperor described the situation.
He faced a hostile atmosphere from the moment he entered the cage: ” It was electric, but I expected it. I came to destroy the Frankfurt party and to give a clear message. Nothing could break me. But the fans should show respect. Anyway, Frankfurt, thank you for the strength you gave me.”
“It’s a fantastic project, I’m more than grateful and happy to be part of the best MMA league and to be able to help popularise MMA in Greece together with Andreas Michailidis and our team,” let the dangerous Greek chime in.
Now, although he can’t wait for more fights in the Oktagon, he also revealed that he is convinced that his compatriot and training partner Michailidis will dominate Gamechanger: “ We know it from the beginning. He is the favourite. It’s a huge thing for Greek MMA to be in the final of the MMA Champions League.”
And what’s next for him? “We are working on the future and something big is coming. Christian Eckerlin wanted to fight Jungwirth and I interfered with his plans, so I’m looking forward to coming to Germany again and having a rematch with him in front of a full house. I’ m just starting to show the potential I have in me,” Palaiologos said.
