The largest Czechoslovak organisation has already crossed the border and is making its mark on the German market. But it doesn’t stop there. Oktagon is now working on further expansion, targeting the UK and Ireland. Commentator Bryan Lace describes what this could look like.
Oktagon has done a fantastic job from an MMA perspective in the Czech Republic. He has popularised the sport and made a great name for himself abroad. After that, there was talk of expansion abroad and that has already happened.
The biggest Czechoslovakian organization has entered the German market. There it made its name thanks to the reality show Oktagon Challenge, followed by a tournament in the sold-out Frankfurt Festhalle and in October we will see a second gala on local soil.
And it doesn’t stop there. There are already slow talks of further growth, this time into the UK and Irish markets. This was revealed by Octagon commentator Bryan Lacey, who among other things has been an important figure in the organisation’s forward progress.
“There’s talk of a reality show, maybe along the lines of a UK vs Ireland rivalry. That’s the plan now and that’s the direction the attention is going in. I have been asked by the leadership of the organisation what it should do differently. I replied that it should emulate everything that has happened in the CZ/SK scene,” Lacey told Severe MMA.
Lacey admitted that the reality show was a success in Germany. And if it moved to the Islands, where it would be further enhanced by international rivalries? That would be great, of course.
The management of Oktagon has already visited the famous SBG Gym, where Lucie Pudilova or the famous Conor McGregor trains, as well as London Shootfighters, which for a change is very well known to Karlos Vémola.
“We have also been in contact with different managers. So for now it’s at the stage where we are looking for athletes to sign. The first signings could take place very soon. Right now, we have a few events before the end of the year and then the planning for 2023 will start,” Lacey added.
