The biggest domestic MMA organization Oktagon is coming to Germany again in October. The Frankfurt Festhalle will see, among other things, a duel between two former title challengers in the Welterweight division.
When Oktagon announced its expansion into Germany earlier this year, many likened the organization’s desire to conquer a foreign market to a step into the unknown. But the June tournament in Frankfurt sold out the local Festhalle and the tournament was a huge success, not just in the German media.
The organisation has thus decided to continue on the path of building its brand in its western neighbours and is returning to Frankfurt again in October with the Oktagon 36 tournament. The not yet fully uncovered card mainly consists of fighters known to the German market.
However, these are supplemented by names well known to the Czechoslovak audience. Oktagon has now announced a match that defines the above statement quite accurately. In fact, two former title challengers will face each other in the cage, but they are united by one common factor.
Namely, both were no match for the current king of the division in their fight for the Octagon Welterweight Championship. That is none other than David “The Pink Panther” Kozma, who has had a bloody war with both fighters.
Now they’ll face each other in the cage. Serbian Bojan Velickovic is the division’s number one ranked fighter who has been through the UFC and PFL organizations overseas. After losing his fight to Kozma, he then controversially defeated Maté Kertész at Oktagon Prime 5.
He will be opposed by Apollo Welterweight four Leandro Silva, who has done the most damage to the current champion’s face so far. In a memorable five-round bout, however, it was the Brazilian training at the famous American Top Team in Florida who walked away from the fight as the loser.
Both guarantee a great spectacle that will certainly add the right spice to the German tournament. We will see the denouement of this story on October 15.
