Octagon has previously hinted at plans to expand towards the UK. At OKTAGON 38, however, a project was announced that will put the largest Czechoslovak organization on the British market and with which it will head there.
Finally! We have already seen the official announcement that Oktagon will be heading to the UK in 2023, but now we also know the project that will help it succeed on the British market.
The project is called Stage to the Cage and will be headlined by celebrities. Only one has been announced so far. It will be Paul Smith, a popular comedian from Liverpool who sells out big venues in England.
“Obviously I’m suffering from a mid-life crisis,” says the 40-year-old, who is facing 10 months of preparation for the first MMA fight of his life. He also made a personal appearance to fans in the packed O2 Arena.
“The welcome was beautiful, unbelievable. I think the tournament in England will also be incredible. It’s going to be an amazing show, I’m happy to be part of the Octagon. I’m going to try to fight my best,” Smith let slip.
Nearly 400,000 people follow Smith on Instagram alone. His opponent is expected to be the star of a British reality show. So the goal is clear.
Promoter Ondřej Novotný revealed, among other things, that Oktagon has already arranged the arena where the tournament will take place. However, he was not specific and so we have to wait for the official details.
However, this is a spectacular project that will certainly be attractive and interesting for the British market. Moreover, it will attract new fans to combat sports and it will be interesting to see how it performs.
